About University of Oregon

The University of Oregon was founded in 1872 through a vote of the Oregon Legislature and has overcome many struggles throughout its history, including nearly closing in 1881 due to a lack of funds. In 1969, the university was admitted into the exclusive membership of the Association of American Universities, an organization of leading research universities devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education. The school’s mission is to serve “its students and the people of Oregon, the nation, and the world through the creation and transfer of knowledge in the liberal arts, the natural and social sciences, and the professions.”

Students have a variety of options academically at the University of Oregon, including degrees and certificates at all levels. The University of Oregon offers programs that can be completed through its distance learning program, including graduate degree programs. UO Online offers exceptional classroom teaching in the virtual world. This provides greater flexibility for when and how you study. UO Online is dedicated to strengthening the university’s reputation as a leader in research and teaching.
