About Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary became a reality on May 19, 1950, by a vote of the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Chicago, IL. To house the seminary, the Convention purchased the campus of Wake Forest College in Wake Forest, N.C. The property was originally obtained in 1832 by the Baptists of North Carolina in order to build a college for educating ministers. Southeastern trains Great Commission-minded ministers in the Gospel. The seminary is an institution of higher learning and a Cooperative Program ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).

Men and women can be equipped through 40 different programs with degrees ranging from associate’s degrees to a Ph.D., including the flagship degree, the Master of Divinity (MDiv). Several master’s degrees can be completed entirely online, including the MDiv. Southeastern online degrees deliver theological education and ministry training that allows you to stay in the ministry while you earn your degree. These online programs are designed specifically with online students in mind so they will be accessible and convenient, allowing you to watch the lectures on your own schedule.

Tony’s Take

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary is built for serious ministry training. Classes are focused and move at a steady pace. The work is not light, and students are expected to stay engaged each week.

Professors are a major strength. They know their subjects, care about students, and reply to email. Staff support is reliable too, with quick answers and clear, personal communication. Online classes include direct teaching from professors and connect lessons to real ministry work.

The main fit point is weekly timing. Daytime schedules can be tough with full-time jobs. This school is a strong match for learners who want rigorous ministry preparation and can keep up with a structured week.
