Hi L.Strader,

Are you looking to teach online at the post secondary level or at the current level you’re teaching at?

To teach at the college level, you usually will need a master’s degree, which you have—great! K-12 online schools will require a teaching credential, which it sounds like you already have as well since you’ve been actively teaching for ten years.

There’s no specific online teaching credential required to teach online. However, graduate certificates on the topic of online education are becoming more widely available and earning one can enrich your job prospects and prove you’re trained to teach online to employers.

Thomas Edison State University offers an excellent graduate certificate in online learning for $7405. If you’re interested in teaching at the K-12 level, American Public University offers one of the only K-12 graduate certificates in online teaching.

The best way to break into the industry is to simply start applying for adjunt jobs. Competition is pretty thick these days but we’ve written some very helpful blog posts on where to find jobs.

Becoming familir with online teacher pay rates and course length can also help you idenfity which schools you’d like to teach at.

Good luck!
