I am trying to find an online doctorate program in nutrition or a related area. I have a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I live in Colorado and would not mind a hybrid program where I take a weekend class here and there. However, I live almost 3 hours from the closest college of any kind and would need the majority of my work to be online or distance education. Can you help me?

Hi there,

Great question!

Unfortunately, there aren't too many online PhD or Doctorate degree options in the Nutrition, Wellness, & Exercise Science field.

Our degree database profile over 40 online doctorate degrees in Healthcare but we do not currently profile any hybrid or 100% online options based in Colorado.

I did locate one on-campus option in Colorado— Colorado State University Ph.D. in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Currently, CSU does not offer this degree online or as a hybrid degree.

To apply for a Ph.D. in Nutrition you'll need to have several Biology and Chemistry prerequisites before applying. If you earned a bachelor of science as your undergrad you may be covered. Otherwise, you'll have to take these classes first either at CSU or elsewhere.

You may also want to consider a second master's degree. There are substantially more options in the realm of Nutrition & Wellness in the master's level online.

Also, if your undergrad was not in the sciences, you could pursue a Master of Education or Liberal Arts slanted towards Nutrition or Public Health to sidestep some or most of the science heavy prerequisites you need for a Master of Science or Ph.D.
