For the original poster — and anyone else arriving with a subject-matter master’s — the M.S. already does more here than you might think. For teaching college-level IT online, the qualification rule most accreditors use is a master’s degree plus 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline you teach — and an M.S. in Information Resources Management plus twenty years in the field is exactly the profile community colleges and online programs hire as adjuncts. Before buying another degree, send your transcript to two or three department chairs and ask whether you’d qualify to teach IT courses as-is. A lot of people in your position find the credential box is already checked.
The M.Ed. list you’re weighing makes sense for specific destinations only. The Instructional Technology and eLearning flavors lead to instructional-design jobs — building courses at universities and companies — which pay well but aren’t teaching. K-12 virtual schools are the one lane where a state teaching license is the actual requirement, degree titles aside. If design work appeals, browse online education master’s programs with that career in mind; if classroom teaching at the college level is the goal, your subject-matter master’s beats an education master’s almost every time.

In most cases, you actually don’t need a formal certificate or degree to teach online college courses. Experience teacher can give you an edge but is also not always necessary. Many online degree programs offer or require that new adjuncts or instructors take a short continuing education course (that they provide) on how to use the software system they use and on how to engage students online. Hi, as mentioned above a formal degree is not really needed. That is if you are not thinking of joining any particular online college. You have the option of going on your own too. You simply have to choose best software for online classes to conduct class. The only problem of going on your own is to find students online. I teach Physic online but for high school students. I am at it right from 2010 and am experiencing vast change in attitude of people. Online education is just taking baby steps and it will grow faster than anyone can imagine.
