Is Pittsford University a reliable university for online studies and is it recognised internationally?

re·li·a·ble adjective 1. consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted. For an online degree in the USA to be “reliable” it must be properly accredited.

Accreditation provides an independent review of a college or university and determines if that education is of uniform and sound quality, thus a reliable education.

In the United States accreditation is determined by a number of agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

See: What is online college accreditation?

Pittsford University claims to be accredited by the IACOEI (International Accreditation Commission for Online Educational Institutions), as stated on their website.

However, the IACOEI is NOT recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Pittsford University is NOT recognized to issue online degrees.

We would not advise you to attend any online college or university that lacks recognized accreditation. See: Diploma Mill or Real Online College?: 10 Ways to Spot the Fake

Unaccredited universities try to trick students into thinking they are accredited by creating their own accrediting body, making their scheme look very official.

Hi if the university is accredited by none of the fake accreditation agencies in your list, does that mean the university has some credibility? please clarify thanks Nabil

Hi Nabil,

Great question!

The answer is not necessarily.

Our list of fake agencies for college accreditation is constantly being updated just as diploma mills are constantly creating new bogus accrediting bodies.

Because of that, our list is not exhaustive but we try to update as often as possible. Which school were you wondering about?

You can also check the U.S. Department of Education's list of APPROVED accrediting agencies to see if the school's accreditation is legitimate.

And remember, real, accredited online schools MUST be accredited by an agency approved by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education to be considered a credible degree granting institution.

Finally, there are other ways to identify a diploma mill besides accreditation status.

See if the university has any of the warning signs listed in 10 Ways to Spot a Fake Online Degree.

Good luck!
