Mansfield University of Pennsylvania is a four-year public school located in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. Mansfield began in 1857 as Mansfield Classical Seminary. The school is one of the 14 schools that are part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Mansfield University of Pennsylvania offers associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, post baccalaureate certificates, master’s degrees, and post-master’s certificates in 73 undergraduate, nine graduate, seven associate, and 63 minor programs. Mansfield was the first university in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to offer online courses. Curriculum in online courses is the same difficulty level as those same classes that are offered in a classroom.
Mansfield University of Pennsylvania has 3,275 students (2,876 undergraduates) and 177 faculty members, giving the university a 19:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Of all faculty members, 132 teach full-time and 45 teach part-time. Of all students, about 93% study full-time and about 7% study part-time. The student body contains 59% female students and 41% male students. About 80% of all students are white with the remaining students being Asian, black, American Indian, and Hispanic. About 87% of students are ages 24 and under with 13% of students being ages 25 and above. About 83% of students are from Pennsylvania, 16% of students are from out-of-state, and 1% of students are from a foreign country. The retention rate for first-time, full-time students is 72% and the retention rate for first-time, part-time students is 50%. The overall graduation rate is 53%.
Students in their first and second year are required to live on-campus and have a meal plan. Single rooms are available but most students share a four-person dorm room. Dining halls include: Simply To Go, Jazzman’s Café and Bakery, and Mountie Chalet at the Hut.
Students are able to participate in over 100 clubs and organizations, theater productions, athletics, and extra-curricular programming (concerts, lectures, films, travel, theatre, multi-media, special events). The Mountaineer’s male sports include baseball, cross country, basketball, football, and track and field while women’s sports include field hockey, soccer, softball, swimming, cross country, basketball, and track and field.
The Campus Ministry at Mansfield University is affiliated with the following churches, who have designated United Campus Ministry (UCM) as their official ministry: American Baptist Church, Disciples of Christ, Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton.
Special learning opportunities available to students include: distance learning, study abroad, and teacher certification. Students have access to services such as remedial tutoring, academic and career counseling, employment services, placement services for completers, and on-campus day care for students’ children.
Tuition costs $8,654 per year for in-state students and $18,192 per year for out-of state students. Books and other supplies are estimated to cost $1,500 per year. On-campus living costs $7,756 per year with an estimated $4,545 in additional living expenses. Off-campus living is estimated to cost $8,000 per year with $4,545 in additional living expenses. Tuition payment plans and pre-paid tuition plans are offered. Financial aid is offered in the form of state grants, federal grants, scholarships, and loans. To qualify to receive financial aid, you must complete a FAFSA form (use code 003324) and be evaluated to be in financial need. About 95% of all Mansfield students receive financial aid.
Every year, around 2,350 students apply to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and 77% of those applicants will be admitted into the school. Statistically, 76% of men and 77% of women who apply will be accepted. To be considered for enrollment, a student must submit the following: a high school transcript or equivalent, admission test scores for SAT/ACT and TOEFL, $25 application fee, and a completed application. Student GPAs should be above a C+ overall. Certain programs may have additional requirements.
