Buena Vista University has a well developed distance education program that offers graduate and undergraduate programs, of which are maintained within the division of Graduate and Professional Studies.
ONLINE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Online undergraduate programs vary in the number of credits required to completion, and include programs of study in: accounting, business administration, criminal justice, finance, general education, health services leadership, human services, management, marketing, organizational leadership, psychology, and public administration. Virtually-hosted graduate programs include studies in education, ranging from master’s programs in curriculum and instruction, and special education, to endorsements in talented and gifted, and English as a Second Language.
As an alternative distance education path, BVU maintains a cooperative agreement with the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC). Students can begin eLearning programs at the community college level and earn an associate’s degree that seamlessly transfers into BVU’s online bachelor’s degree programs.
The Graduate and Professional Studies division of BVU gears the classroom towards working professionals. Instruction is delivered in 8-week sessions, with an option to enroll in a distance education course or attend an on-campus course, two evenings per week. Students can choose from online or on campus to suit their schedules and preferences. Courses retain a low student-to-faculty ratio, and instructors provide interactive lessons and assignments in an effort to engage students. ELearning students have access to a number of BVU support services, some of which include: career services, advising, library resources, SMARTHINKING tutoring, internship services, and technical support.
