Albany Technical College offer a Criminal Justice Specialist Certificate for students and professionals in criminal justice-related fields who are interested in careers and career advancement in criminology, law enforcement, criminal justice, law, the courts, and the legal system. Students will learn about the processes involved in the investigation, arrest, and legal processes involved in trying suspects, as well as understanding the psychology and sociological factors that induce criminal behavior.
Students will develop their practical understanding necessary for their careers in addition to a curriculum which will prepare them for roles in criminal justice. Those classes include introduction to criminal justice, corrections, principles of law enforcement, criminal law for criminal justice, and constitutional law and criminal justice.
Upon completion of the program, students will have demonstrated a fundamental understanding of criminal justice in order to prepare for careers in law and law enforcement. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate understanding of the discipline of criminal justice and its role in contributing to our understanding of the evolving world of crime; to demonstrate understanding of the criminal justice system and organizational environment, including government institutions, political institutions, and organizational structure; and to demonstrate the ability to utilize technology to access information and perform technological functions relating to the criminal justice system.
