Medical Records Technician Certificate
Students seeking to expand on current skills in the healthcare field may be ideal candidates for Yavapai College’s Medical Records Technician certificate program. The certificate introduces students to the critical requirements of maintaining and acquiring medical records in a healthcare facility.
The certificate program aims to prepare students to enter or excel in current positions of supportive health care professionals. Graduates should be capable of providing basic care, billing, insurance, administrative and technical medical skills. The introductory certificate will give student the critical blend of information technology, communications and health care concepts. Acquiring the skills for keeping medical records may serve as the needed skill for advancement in a current career or the minimum requirement when pursuing a new position in the healthcare field.
To earn a certificate in Medical Records Technician, students must complete the required 16 credit hours, which are comprised of courses delving into topics such as Medical Terminology for Patient Care, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Health Information Management.
The certificate program intends to provide students with the resources to make ethical decisions when performing information management responsibilities as well as correctly applying appropriate medical terminology to written requests from medical staff, insurance companies and other pertinent personnel. Skills gained while in this program may give students the necessary confidence to pursue entry-level positions as well-trained and educated professionals. The Medical Records Technician certificate may prepare graduates to seek employment opportunities in a variety of fields including; a physician's office, acute care settings and/or long-term care settings.
