Associate of Applied Science - Office Administration
Students may earn an Associate of Applied Science in the area of Office Administration from Yavapai College. Students in this AAS degree program may gain the essential skills needed for entry into the competitive administration field. The growing need for well-educated individuals capable of multitasking and supporting a business office may be a perfect opportunity for successful graduates. The curriculum is comprised of core business courses, providing students a solid foundation in accounting, English, communications, management, computer science and Microsoft Office.
Students will specialize in a particular concentration to best fit personal and professional aspirations. The AAS in Office Administration requires students to complete 13 credit hours in a critical area of many office settings. Students can complete the coursework in one of four areas of concentration:
• Computer Skills: The Computer Skills concentration introduces students to the computer technologies required for efficient functioning of a business. The courses cover topics such as creative leadership, Adobe, advanced Microsoft Office concepts and web page developing with Dreamweaver.
• Management/Leadership Skills: The management concentration aims to give students the skills needed to apply learned theories to the human dynamic of a successful organization. The concentration introduces students to courses in supervision, human relations, human resources, advanced Microsoft Office concepts and creative leadership.
• Medical Office Skills: Earning the focus in allied healthcare concepts may give students a competitive advantage when entering the medical industry. The vital need for supplemental staff in a hospital or medical office setting requires students to gain an understanding of medical terminology, leadership, learning health information technology methods as well as the legal aspects of health informatics management.
• Legal Office Skills: Students interested in entering the legal profession as an assistant or a paralegal may be able to use the Legal Office concentration when demonstrating knowledge of legal ethics and responsibilities, legal computer applications and software, office management, leadership, and an advanced understanding of Microsoft Windows.
Upon successful completion of the Office Administration program, graduates should be able to apply the learned business fundamentals, in conjunction with their chosen area of concentration, to a career that best fits individual interests. The gained professionalism from earning a formal education may give graduates the confidence to pursue multiple types of administrative roles and perform responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
