Associate of Applied Science - Fire Science
Yavapai College offers undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a degree in Fire Science. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science is available to students through an online learning environment. The 60 credit hour program may be ideal for students who are seeking entry-level positions working as or with Firefighters, Hazardous Materials Technicians, Fire Marshal/Inspectors, Fire Investigators or Fire Service Supervisor/Managers. While in this program, students may gain the necessary resources to gain a broad academic understanding of Fire Safety while also acquiring key critical thinking skills.
Participants in the Fire Safety program will learn about the various settings and situations that require skilled first-responders. In the event of a fire, or in a hazardous area where flammable materials are evident, trained individuals should be able to provide assistance, policing, emergency communication and leadership. The Fire Safety program stresses the fundamental skills of Emergency Planning, Legal Issues, Disaster Mitigation and many other topics of interest.
Graduates should have a knowledge-based approach to strategically plan for disaster reduction, recovery, prevention, and response. Those who successfully complete this program should be able to contribute necessary professionalism when assessing security issues. Graduates should also be able to lead and manage others in the prevention, planning, and execution of protective abilities.
