Associate of Applied Science - Emergency Management Applications
Yavapai College has made available to students the option of acquiring the advanced education in Emergency Management. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Management is offered in an online learning format, allowing students to remain in current careers and locations while earning the advanced degree. The online degree program is designed for students seeking to enhance their current expertise with the introductory education concentrating on Emergency Management. The program is comprised of 61 credit hours, and may be the ideal level of education for students interested in entering careers working or with homeland security, first responders or law enforcement professionals.
Students of the Emergency Management degree program may be introduced to the essential concepts necessary to handle diverse situations involving natural and man-made emergency situations. The recent awareness of how catastrophic a local or foreign act of terrorism, or a natural disaster can be on a nation, has increased the demand for well trained individuals, able to provide medical assistance, policing, emergency communication and agricultural sustainability to a large and small community in need. Some students may use the associate degree to supplement previously earned educations and experiences, or as the stepping-stone for additional degrees at the bachelor or masters level in a related field of study.
The Associate Emergency Management degree program focuses on providing students and professionals the fundamental skills of emergency management while also preparing graduates for leadership positions. Graduates should be able to strategically approach delicate situations of a disaster with a functioning plan of prevention in addition to recovery and response methods. Students may use the earned education to enter into first-responder careers or many others such as: fire fighting, law enforcement, emergency medical fields, environmental health and safety, and many others.
The 60 credit hour AAS degree program is comprised of essential Emergency Management topics of interest. The curriculum introduces students to vital concepts through courses such as Law and Legal Issues, Emergency Planning, and Terrorism and Homeland Security. Graduates of the degree program will contribute to the need of well-trained and educated professionals capable of performing in times of need. The learned skills should provide graduates with the leadership and management resources to develop plans of prevention and the strategic execution of protection.
