Associate of Applied Science - Accounting
Yavapai College offers business-minded students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting through an online format. The online degree program is designed for students seeking to expand their educational endeavors, while earning an introductory accounting degree. The 60 credit hour program may be ideal for students who are seeking entry-level positions working as or with accounting professionals. The program aims to give undergraduate students the necessary resources to gain a broad academic understanding of accounting basics while also acquiring key critical thinking skills.
Accounting can be described as the working system of creating, maintaining, and auditing financial records of an organization. Accounting professionals may use the earned degree to become accountants, who are licensed and certified to legally evaluate financial records and report findings to appropriate persons. The increasing awareness of fraud and white-collar crime has stiffened the requirements expected from accounting specialists. Students may use the concepts learned from this degree for better judgment, ethical practices, and overall professionalism when preparing and submitting financial documents.
The 60 credit hour AAS degree program is comprised of essential accounting topics of interest. The curriculum introduces students to concepts of: Basic Tax Planning, Payroll Accounting, Computer Accounting with Quickbooks, and Microsoft Office. Upon successful completion of the accounting degree program, graduates should be able to the learned fundamentals towards current or future careers.
