Program Details

The Online Bachelor’s Degree Completion Program in History at Westfield State University aims to give students a well-grounded understanding of the past and how it applies to the present and future. Students with a degree in history should be prepared to continue with graduate work in history or law or pursue careers in communications, teaching, international business, government areas, social work, museum administration, library science, and many other areas.

Students will take a variety of courses in the history department including topics on US history and government, western experience, world history, the history of other parts of the world such as Asia and Africa, and historical research and analysis. Students may then select six additional courses from and extensive list; thus students can focus on their specific interests and career goals. Elective areas include those in European, American, World and General history. Examples of courses include Medieval Europe, the French Revolution, African American History, The Civil War, Latin America, Methods of Teaching History, and Psychohistory.

This course is designed for those who have finished the curriculum designed for the online History Bachelor’s Degree Completion program at one of Massachusetts’s community colleges. These courses are based on Massachusetts transfer compact and are meant to help students in associate degree programs who wish to eventually enroll in this program at WSU choose relevant courses. Students who meet the transfer compact requirements may complete the History Completion Program entirely online. Those who have not completed the courses outlined in this compact program may still be eligible for the program and can finish many (though not all) courses online.
