A.S. Degree in Accounting
Western Wyoming Community College
The Associate of Science degree in Accounting program at Western Wyoming Community College intends to give students the skills and knowledge to begin pursuing various careers in the field of accounting. Using the latest technology, the program allows students to work with financial data at a variety of levels in an organization. Students may have the opportunity to pursue a four-year degree or entry-level employment upon completion. There are typically many transfer options for students wising to continue their education, and WWCC has many transfer agreements with several accredited colleges and universities. The accounting curriculum may also work well with many online BS degrees in accounting and business administration. The online format allows students to complete courses as it fits into their own schedule.
The program has several core accounting courses and includes topics on principles of accounting, information systems, and payroll and managerial accounting. Students will also have classes in the other various fields of study to complete the general education requirement. Fields include the arts, humanities, the sciences, communication, and social sciences.
There are many reasons students pursue associate's degrees. Graduates may gain entry level positions in many places that use accounting such as businesses, firms, government institutions, and non-profits organizations, to name a few. Students may also continue their education with a four-year degree, and may even pursue topics related to accounting such as business and management in order to increase their skills and hiring potential. The general education classes also may allow students to gain a wide base of global knowledge, with many classes potentially fulfilling requirements at four-year colleges.

Western Wyoming Community College is a public, tax-supported, two-year, co-educational institution. Western Wyoming Community College, the fifth of seven community colleges in Wyoming, was established in the fall of 1959. Through the efforts of a citizens’ committee, a campaign was begun, an election was held, and the college and the original district were created. The mission of Wyoming's community colleges is "to provide access to post-secondary educational opportunities by offering broad comprehensive programs in academic as well as vocational-technical subjects." Wyoming's community colleges are low-tuition, open access institutions focusing on academic transfer programs, career and occupational programs, developmental and basic skills instruction, adult and continuing education, economic development training, public and community services programming and student support services. WWCC offers associate's degrees and certificates, many of which can be earned online.
