A.A.S. Degree in Office Information Systems
The Associate of Applied Science Degree with an emphasis on Office Information Systems program at Western Wyoming Community College aims to prepare students for work in the modern electronic office. Students may be prepared for a changing work environment as they learn the latest advances in office technology. The online format allows students to work at their own pace and around their own schedule. As the modern world uses more and more advanced technology, especially in the professional world, it is vital to have trained people who can operate information systems in an office setting.
Enrolled students will have a variety of courses in technology as well as general office skills. Technology courses include those in keyboarding, spreadsheets, word processing and database applications, and integrated applications. Courses in office skills include those in business math, records and information management, accounting, and office systems and procedures. Perspective students who already have keyboarding skills may, with approval, substitute other courses for the keyboarding course. The curriculum will conclude with a portfolio/capstone class which will integrate all the skills students have learned. Students will also have classes in the other various fields of study. Fields include history, humanities, the sciences, mathematics, communication, and social sciences.
Students may earn an Associate's degree if they wish to gain skills for entry-level positions, especially with companies that have technology-based offices. Students may also continue their education, and thus their hiring potential, with a bachelor's degree. This program should allow students to begin the process of a four-year degree within the field of information systems as well as complete several general education courses many schools require.
