Western Kentucky University is a public university that is located on a 200-acre suburban campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Western Kentucky University was established in 1906 by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, although its roots go back a quarter-century earlier. WKU was originally established as one the states two original teacher training institutes, also known as normal schools. The original name of WKU was the Western Kentucky State Normal School. Western Kentucky’s mission “prepares students to be productive, engaged, and socially responsible citizen leaders of a global society” and the institution focuses on “research, service, and lifelong learning opportunities."

WKU’s online program offers 1,000 web courses each year, and over 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs can be earned entirely online. Students can complete all of their general education requirements online.
