Program Details

The online MAEd in Special Education for Teacher Leaders degree program from Western Kentucky University is designed to empower teachers to address authentic needs in classroom management, differentiated instruction, and improve student learning. This program offers two tracks to suit students' personal interests and professional goals:

  • Moderate & Severe Disabilities
  • Learning & Behavior Disorders


  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university or equivalent
  • WKU alumni of the teacher preparation programs must have a current, valid teaching certificate or Statement of Eligibility
  • Other graduates must have a 2.75 GPA for all previous undergraduate coursework and a 3.0 GPA for previous graduate coursework or qualifying GRE scores 
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a teaching certificate
