Master of Arts in Education in Secondary Education for Teacher Leaders

Program Details

The online MAEd in Secondary Education for Teacher Leaders degree program from Western Kentucky University is made up of two components. The first component, Professional Education, provides advanced level pedagogy, leadership, and content related to Kentucky Teacher Standards and applicable to all P-12 teachers working in the wide gamut of developmental levels and content areas. The second component, Specialization, directs the candidate into an individual program in content, pedagogy, and/or areas of professional growth concurrent with the goals of each candidate. The following Specialization areas are offered:

  • Environmental Education
  • Gifted Education Endorsement
  • Kentucky Computer Technology
  • Teaching English as a Second Language Endorsement

Requirements

  • This degree program requires 30-37 credits for completion.
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university or equivalent
  • WKU alumni of the teacher preparation programs must have a current, valid teaching certificate or Statement of Eligibility
  • Other graduates must have a 2.75 GPA for all previous undergraduate coursework and a 3.0 GPA for previous graduate coursework or qualifying GRE scores 
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a teaching certificate
