Master of Science in Data Analytics

Program Details

WGU’s online Master of Science in Data Analytics (MSDA) program prepares students to lead in the world of big data, and collect and interpret data to improve business productivity and efficiency. Designed in collaboration with IT experts, the MSDA degree program focuses on data science tools and techniques, advanced SQL, data mining and analytics, data visualization, and SAS programming. Every industry from advertising to zoology needs big data experts, and graduates of the MSDA program will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and certifications necessary to have a successful career as a leader in data management and analytics in any industry.

Requirements

The program requires a total of 32 competency units (CUs), our equivalent to the traditional credit hour.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university, and must also demonstrate experience with data analysis through at least one of the following methods:

  • A bachelor’s degree in information systems, systems engineering, data management, data analysis, CS, software, statistics, accounting/finance.
  • Hold an Udacity nanodegree in data analytics.
  • Submit a resume for review showing at least 3 years of significant and recent experience in data analysis.
  • Verification of a current Oracle SQL, Oracle BI, or SAS certification that has been earned in the past five years.

Accreditation & Licensing

Western Governors University is the only university to have received simultaneous accreditation by four regional accrediting commissions. Currently, WGU's "home" accrediting commission is the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the same organization that accredits such leading institutions as the University of Washington, University of Oregon, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and other public and private colleges.
