Program Overview

West Georgia Technical College offers a Technical Specialist Certificate for professionals interested in learning about the communication, management, and technical skills needed for general and specialist roles within a business environment. Through the program, students should expand their capabilities in business and develop their capabilities in the utilization of business software and computer systems in the day-to-day and specialized operations of a business. Through the program, students may increase their understanding of technology interaction, organizational behavior, strategic planning, project management, and systems analysis in support of organizations through information systems.

Individuals have the potential to display foundations of business information technology in preparation for professional responsibilities in business. The curriculum consists of 36 credit hours of classes which include introduction to business, business document proofreading and editing, introduction to computers, and principles of management.

Skills that individuals completing the computer information systems program should understand include the theories and concepts of design as it pertains to the development and editing of documents, and to utilize effective practices of effective records management and to a proficient usage of the English language in the communication process to convey essential information clearly and effectively.  

In addition, students are expected to know the basic concepts, principles, and practices involved in the management of business operations, to demonstrate a working knowledge of representative commercial software packages in office productivity and management operations, and to demonstrate the development of management principles and their integration into modern management theory.

    School Overview

    West Georgia Technical College is a division of the Technical College System of Georgia, and provides education to a seven-county service area that includes the counties of Carrol, Douglas, Coweta, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup. WGTC has campus locations in Carrolton, Newman, Douglasville and Waco, Georgia. All of the campuses were originally a part of the West Central Technical College, which is based in Waco. West Georgia Technical College is the second largest technical college in Georgia. ​WGTC’s mission is "to lead economic and workforce development by offering learning opportunities using traditional and distance learning delivery methods."

    WGTC awards technical certificates of credit, diplomas, and associate degrees through the following schools:

    WGTC’s distance learning program offers completely online programs in the areas of accounting, business, fire science, management, marketing, and medical office specializations. Students are able to enroll in completely online programs which lead to technical certificates, technical diplomas or associate's degrees.
