Program Overview

West Georgia Technical College offers a Service Sector Management Specialist Certificate for students interested in learning about small business operations and performing managerial responsibilities in service related companies. Students will learn about the principles of management as well as the processes involved in services and retail operations. Through the program, students will study the responsibilities and roles involved in operations management and employee management. Students will be taught employee training, development, performance management, and employee retention in order to create effective working environments in order to promote the success of a service business.

The class curriculum emphasizes general business knowledge of operations along with fundamental principles of necessary for management and operations of service oriented companies. The curriculum consists of 18 credit hours of courses which include employee training and development, retail management, and service sector management.   

Students who successfully complete this retail management degree will have proven their capability of retailing concepts and processes involved in service operations, the fundamentals of service operations, understand the operations of management in retail services and understand the functions of business operations in a service location or retail center, and understanding of consumer behavior and the measurable marketing factors that allow managers to develop sales strategies to attract customers.

In addition, students will study the process of attracting, hiring, managing, and retaining employees in order to maintain a useful business environment.

    West Georgia Technical College is a division of the Technical College System of Georgia, and provides education to a seven-county service area that includes the counties of Carrol, Douglas, Coweta, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup. WGTC has campus locations in Carrolton, Newman, Douglasville and Waco, Georgia. All of the campuses were originally a part of the West Central Technical College, which is based in Waco.
