Program Details

The Master of Arts Degree in Social Science Education is often pursued by educators in the social science area and those who wish to gain in depth knowledge of the subject. Webster University offers the Social Science program through a completely online format for students who may be employed in the field of education or in another professional career. The curriculum produces educators who have the potential to serve as leaders in addressing global issues. Graduates may advance their positions in their current careers or have more opportunities when applying for jobs after earning their master’s degree.

This program requires students to complete 33 total credit hours in order to earn the degree. The program gives students the option to earn an emphasis with a thesis or capstone if they choose to do so. Students who do not wish to complete the emphasis will complete core courses, discipline, and specialization courses, and open area courses. Participants who decide to complete the program with the emphasis in History and Government or the emphasis in International and Area Studies will complete emphasis area courses instead of open area courses. This program is ideal for individuals who need flexibility in their schedule due to the amount of customization that is provided to the students. Open area and emphasis courses give students the option to tailor their courses to their individual interests. Students may then choose to finish a thesis or capstone project. The purpose of these projects are to enhance student’s knowledge of social science topics that may be used in their professional careers.
