Program Details

Walden University offers an accredited online accounting degree, the Master of Science in Accounting, for students interested in advancing in the field.  Courses examine advanced accounting principles, helping improve analytic and financial decision-making skills and preparing students to address current accounting challenges.  The goal of this online accounting degree is to help students stay current in the rapidly changing accounting profession by offering subjects relevant to the field, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, recent regulatory decisions by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and other emerging topics and trends.  You will learn to use quantitative and analytical skills essential to the field and to construct alternative solutions to unique accounting situations.  Walden prepares students to evaluate accounting and business practices from ethical, legal, and regulatory perspectives while considering diverse stakeholders and competing interests. 

There are three possible paths to an online accounting master's degree depending on the student’s professional past and future goals:

  • Accounting for the Professional—Students who want to keep current with international accounting standards in order to effectively manage forensic and auditing issues
  • Accounting with CPA Emphasis—Prepares students for the CPA exam and CPA profession
  • Self-Designed—Students design a unique program based on their goals and interests
