Program Overview

Walden University offers the Master of Business Administration degree with a Specialization in Project Management for students and professionals who want to learn about the strategies and procedures for managing projects for new business ventures or expanding existing business activities. Walden University’s Project Management program has been approved by the Project Management Institute and meets the criteria for credit for Project Management Institute certification.

Through the specialization, students will develop the strategies required to manage projects of various scopes, sizes and at various stages of pre-planning, planning, development, completion, and post-completion situations. Students will study applications of principle and practice and how they apply toward managing project complications and situations.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include project management skills for managers, foundations in project management, business strategies for competitive advantage, financial management, accounting for business management, innovation and technology, marketing, and contemporary approaches to management and leadership.

Finally, the capstone course will provide students with the opportunity to explore and analyze real-world examples of situations and issues faced by project managers, as well as give them the opportunity to utilize their education, abilities, and critical-thinking capabilities to examine those issues.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as functional affective professional in their field. These qualifications include the ability to develop extensive and practical knowledge-base of theory, tools, skills, practices, and research related to business and be able to apply these to the problems and opportunities that are encountered in the 21st-century business environment.
