Program Overview

Walden University offers the Master of Business Administration degree with a Specialization in Entrepreneurship and Small Business for students and professionals who want to develop their professional acumen and understanding of business strategies in regard to entrepreneurial activity. Entrepreneurial activity includes start-up businesses, innovation, and other fields involving ground level knowledge of business principles required for developing new businesses or new industries.

Students will gain hands-on experience in developing new businesses or developing new business activities within an organization, by drawing from theory and understanding of business practices, while they learn to manage and control risks and rewards associated with new ventures. As part of the program, students will develop the critical-thinking capacities and decision-making skills necessary for planning, initializing, and completing new business ventures or expanding current business activities.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include building and funding an entrepreneurial venture, entrepreneurship and new venture creation, business strategy for competitive advantage, contemporary approaches to management and leadership, leading people, marketing, innovation and technology, accounting for business management, and financial management.

Finally, the capstone course gives students the opportunity to utilize their education and critical-thinking capability while analyzing and exploring real-world situations and issues faced by entrepreneurs and managers.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as functional affective professional in their field. These qualifications include the ability to develop a range of professional strategies that promote their effectiveness in a business environment.
