Program Overview

Walden University offers the Master of Business Administration degree with a Specialization in Accounting for Managers for students and professionals who want to develop their business acumen and education of advanced business concepts as it applies to management and accounting. Managers are typically tasked with resolving budgeting issues and controlling operational costs, especially from employee activities.

Students will explore accounting and financial techniques that managers can utilize to enhance their critical-thinking and decision making capacities, as well as developing strategies for boosting organizational performance. Students will also study forecasting, cost analysis, assessment methods, budgeting and financial planning procedures and how to apply them towards organizational management. The program will prepare students to either function as accountants with managerial backgrounds, or provide managers with accounting backgrounds to help improve their managerial effectiveness.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include managing operational and financial business risks, managerial accounting for organizational performance, financial management tools for decision making, business strategy for competitive advantage, financial management, accounting for business management, innovation and technology, marketing, business operations in the U.S. and international organizations, and leading people.

Finally, in the capstone course students will examine real-world examples of situations and issues faced by managers.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as functional affective professional in their field. These qualifications include having an extensive and practical knowledge-base of theory, tools, skills, practices, and research related to business and the ability to apply these to the problems and opportunities that are encountered in the 21st century business environment.
