The Office Specialist certificate program provides the technical and administrative support skills necessary for entry-level employment in a variety of offices. The Office Specialist graduate should be competent in the concepts of office systems methodologies and capable of applying these concepts in structured and non-structured problems in an office environment. In addition to the basic office skills and computer application courses, students receive a foundation in supervisory management, business communications, office administration, records and information management, economics, and accounting.

Students will have an in-depth look of the procedures the office document employee will be expected to perform upon entering the world of work. These include office organization and environment, time and task management, public relations, records and information management, equipment and supplies, and handling incoming and outgoing communication. In addition, decision-making, and human relations skills. Upon completion, students should demonstrate mastery in the keyboarding of correspondence, manuscripts, and compositions under timed conditions with established accuracy and formatting standards using proper techniques. They should also develop a high degree of competency and a broad knowledge of skills as they relate to general office procedures.
