Office Documents Certificate
The Office Documents certificate program from Wake Technical Community College aims to provide the skills necessary to design and produce quality professional documents that combine text, graphics, illustrations, and photographs. This concentrated program includes design templates, graphic manipulation tools, color schemes, advanced layout techniques, advanced word processing, editing, and proofreading. Employment opportunities include offices that produce newsletters, flyers, logos, signs, and forms.
This certificate program allows the student to choose both a variety of computer software modules frequently used in an office and electives that allow for flexibility in program content. The combination of computer applications with basic office skills may prepare the graduate for positions, which local and regional businesses seek to fill. Students will have an in-depth look of the procedures the office document employee will be expected to perform upon entering the world of work: office organization and environment, time and task management, public relations, records and information management, equipment and supplies, and handling incoming and outgoing communication. In addition, decision-making, and human relations skills will be stressed.
Upon completion of this program, students may be able to apply proofreading and listening skills for editing and transcribing business correspondence on the personal computer. They may also develop in-depth software application skills, and develop job readiness skills that include preparing a resume and cover letter, completing an application and communicating effectively in a job interview. Students should be able to apply classroom skills in a work related setting, as well as produce formatted business documents using the personal computer.
