Program Overview

The Office Administrator diploma from Wake Technical Community College is designed for students who have previous work experience in the office administration field. After successfully earning this diploma, students may be able to enter career such as office coordinator, administrative coordinator, executive assistant, and office manager. The Office Administration Department offers two-year associate degrees as well as diplomas in Office Administration and Medical Office Administration, along with six (6) certificates.

Businesses and organizations appreciate when an office space runs in an efficient and effective manager through proper coordination and supervision. Skills in computer applications, project coordination and supervision, as well as web content and electronic data management, are stressed to prepare the office coordinator for today’s competitive workplace. This program will discuss subjects such as medical records, medical law/ethics, billing and coding, office procedures, and transcription.

Learning goals for this program include understanding effective hands-on use of computer application software and communication with the technologies that may be utilized in an office setting. Graduates should also be able to display workplace skills related to the field of office administration; employ appropriate customer service skills, understand the fundamentals of management and supervision as they apply to the office setting, and be able to analyze a problem situation and its components to define the problem and identify possible causes, constraints in the situation, and limitations such as time and resources. Lastly, graduates should be able to implement accounting principles using accounting software. Those who successfully complete this degree may have the opportunity to take the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) national certification exam or other certification exams.
