This Office Administrator major prepares students for careers such as office coordinator, administrative coordinator, executive assistant and office manager. This program from Wake Technical Community College is designed for students who have previous work experience in the office administration field. The Office Administration Department offers two-year associate degrees as well as diplomas in Office Administration and Medical Office Administration, along with six certificates. All coursework is available online, although students have the option of taking some courses on-campus.
This program reflects the growing concern for the human factor and the quality of work life in successfully coordinating and supervising the office. Skills in computer applications, project coordination and supervision, as well as web content and electronic data management, are stressed to prepare the office coordinator for today’s competitive workplace. Coursework includes medical records, medical law/ethics, billing and coding, office procedures, and transcription.
The student learning outcomes of this program may allow students to demonstrate effective hands-on use of computer application software, display effective communication with the technologies that may be utilized in an office setting, demonstrate workplace skills related to the field of office administration, employ appropriate customer service skills, and understand the fundamentals of management and supervision as they apply to the office setting. Students may also learn to analyze a problem situation and components to define the problem and identify possible causes, constraints in the situation, and limitations such as time and resources, and implement accounting principles using accounting software. Upon successful completion, students may be eligible to take the CPC (Certified Professional Coder) national certification exam or other certification exams after completing the degree.
