This Entrepreneurship Certificate program from Wake Technical Community College aims to enable students to recognize business opportunities and develop a business plan for the purpose of securing financing for an entrepreneurial start-up. Another goal includes teaching students how to understand the steps involved in effectively operating a small business. Students will learn about practical skills and some of the best business practices in establishing and operating a business.
This program intends to provide students with a basic understanding of strategy and entrepreneurship. Participants will explore the essential components of idea and concept generation, the phases of the entrepreneurial process and timeline, as well as the roles of management teams and advisors. This program also supports potential entrepreneurs in their quest for entrepreneurial leadership, and aims to provide a structured process to introduce students to three key elements for developing a successful management structure for their enterprise. These elements include a self-aware, mature entrepreneur, a well-designed management (and governance) team, and motivated, creative work groups.
The assignments assist students in deciding whether entrepreneurship is the best career choice and if so, helps them define the specific type of entrepreneurial organization to set up and what challenges await. Students may learn how to integrate business concepts, tools, and techniques with their primary field of study, leading to greater marketability post-graduation. Key courses include topics in initiation, development, and management of entrepreneurial firms, creating, designing, and evaluating new venture ideas, financial, legal, and technological concepts for start-up businesses, and managerial communication, organizational growth, and professional resources for entrepreneurs.
