This Computer Programming program from Wake Technical Community College is designed to develop skills in computer business applications, computer programming, computer operations and management, web development, and systems analysis. This program prepares individuals for employment as computer programmers and related positions through study and applications in computer concepts, logic, programming procedures, languages, generators, operating systems, networking data management, and business operations.
While in this program, students will solve business computer problems through programming techniques and procedures, using appropriate languages and software. The primary emphasis of the curriculum is hands-on training in programming and related computer areas that provide the ability to adapt as systems evolve. This program gives a strong foundation in actual applications frequently used in business and industry including: Visual Basic, SQL, XML, X/HTML, C#, or Java. This program introduces the student to critical thinking concepts and problem solving techniques integral to computer programming. Courses will also discuss basic computer programming concepts including program design, algorithms, control structures, data structures, and object oriented programming (OOP) using Alice 3D programming environment.
Student learning outcomes of this program may allow them to demonstrate an understanding of various problem solving techniques, implement various programming design tools and techniques, and implement object oriented, event driven, and modular programming applications. Graduates may also be able to apply database queries and basic database design, create appropriate data structures for effective program execution, and implement an effective interactive user interface. Other skills involve the ability to markup data for both web and business applications, understand computer hardware and computer systems, demonstrate basic business applications and file management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
