Program Details

The online Associate in Applied Science in Human Services Technology with a concentration in Substance Abuse is designed for students interested in careers helping those with substance abuse problems.  Students will complete a curriculum that features an overview of substance abuse issues.  Courses cover chemical dependency, psychological and sociological processes, the twelve Core Functions, intervention techniques with individuals and groups, and follow-up activities with recovering clients.  With educational and clinical experiences, graduates are prepared to gain certification by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. 

You will be prepared to assist with:

  • Drug and alcohol counseling
  • Prevention-oriented educational activities
  • Rehabilitation with recovering clients
  • Managing community-based programs
  • Counseling in residential facilities
