Program Overview

Valley City State University offers a major in Technology Education for interested students. This program aims to provide awareness and information about a wide variety of technology related careers and non-traditional opportunities. In addition, this program also intends to prepare students to prosper in an information and technology rich society.

Once admitted into the major, there are a variety of courses to choose from to reach the 120 credit hours to complete the major. As a Technology Education major, students are placed into schools for a series of field experiences including Introduction to Education (40 hours), Practicum (80 hours), and Culturally Diverse Practicum (25 hours involving 3 consecutive full days in a classroom). Students will also need to fulfill a twelve-week student teaching field experience completed in a location that works well for the student and university. Student teaching is the culminating experience of the program and the opportunity for students to apply all they have learned regarding their classroom preparation and field experience opportunities.

Upon completion of the Technology Education courses and field experience, graduates should be qualified for future professional endeavors, as well as having a wide variety of related knowledge.

    Valley City State University is a public university located in Valley City, North Dakota. VCSU is situated on a 55 acre campus, and the entire campus is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The university is one of eleven institutions in the North Dakota University System. Valley City State University was established in 1890 as a normal school, which is also known as a teachers college, and for over one hundred years has provided students with an engaging social and academic learning environment. Staying true to its heritage, Valley City University has developed a stellar reputation for educating some of the top teachers in the area.

    VCSU offers bachelor's and master's degrees. The academic departments and divisions at VCSU consist of Communication Arts and Social Science, Business and Information Technology, School of Education and Graduate Studies, Math, Science and Health & Physical Education and Fine Arts. VCSU offers an opportunity for distance learning for students that want to earn a degree from VCSU, but don’t have a schedule that allows them to do so. The online classes are delivered through the internet, which makes students able to participate from any location that has internet access. Students have the choice of either working independently, or together with fellow distance education students.
