Valley City State University offers a Business Education major which prepares students for various teaching positions in junior and senior high schools. VCSU also offers a Master of Education (M. Ed.) degree which is available to students who have earned an undergraduate Business Education degree. With this additional degree, students are also prepared to teach at the post-secondary level.
The college asks that students applying for the teacher education program meet certain criteria before applying. First, students must have an overall GPA of 2.75. If the GPA is between 2.50 – 2.74, students can be approved if they have an overall GPA of 2.75 if they are an education major as well, or have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA in the past two semesters. Next students must have a satisfactory academic performance in the general education composition and communication requirements and successful completion of a speech-screening test. Third, students must have written recommendations from the advisor, a School of Education instructor, and another related professional. Lastly, students must meet state standards on statewide exams, as well as satisfactory performance in Introduction to Education.
Upon completion of this major, graduates of Business Education are prepared to teach courses such as keyboarding, accounting, general business, business law, marketing, and computer applications. Students may become licensed by the Education Standards and Practices Board to teach Business and Office Technology Education with the option of an additional endorsement in Marketing Education. In addition graduates can will be fit for professional careers in both education and business fields.

Valley City State University is a public university located in Valley City, North Dakota. VCSU is situated on a 55 acre campus, and the entire campus is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. The university is one of eleven institutions in the North Dakota University System. Valley City State University was established in 1890 as a normal school, which is also known as a teachers college, and for over one hundred years has provided students with an engaging social and academic learning environment. Staying true to its heritage, Valley City University has developed a stellar reputation for educating some of the top teachers in the area.
VCSU offers bachelor's and master's degrees. The academic departments and divisions at VCSU consist of Communication Arts and Social Science, Business and Information Technology, School of Education and Graduate Studies, Math, Science and Health & Physical Education and Fine Arts. VCSU offers an opportunity for distance learning for students that want to earn a degree from VCSU, but don’t have a schedule that allows them to do so. The online classes are delivered through the internet, which makes students able to participate from any location that has internet access. Students have the choice of either working independently, or together with fellow distance education students.
