You’ll find the issues related to criminal justice span the globe, entering the homes and business of its residents in a physical and virtual manner, threatening homeland security, and demanding immediate policy changes to protect the innocent and prosecute the guilty.

The Public Policy & Leadership specialization curriculum prepares you to:

  • Recognize issues within an organization and management of criminal justice agencies, including police departments, prosecutors' offices, courts, jails, prisons, and community corrections.
  • Demonstrate theories of public policy making, mechanics of the process, methods of examining policy impacts, and how criminal studies policy can affect and be affected by research.
  • Communicate effectively about the principles and problems of public administration including the bureaucratic politics, organization theory, decision-making, leadership, personnel management, budgeting, regulation, program implementation, ethics, and accountability.
  • Describe ways in which policy is formulated, adopted, and implemented in the political system.
  • Address all functional areas of management including key management responsibilities of planning, organizing, controlling, leading, and staffing. 
  • Address ethical issues and social responsibilities, change, and global challenges.
  • Address healthcare ethics and medical ethics and develop moral reasoning and decision-making skills as well as the relationthips between ethical theory and medical theory.
  • Analyze the interrelationships among religious, national, and racial minority groups and their dominant majorities in America.
