University of Wisconsin-Stout recognizes that in today's world of rapid technological change and global competition, career and technical education play an increasingly important role in preparing professionals for rewarding careers and helping them make career transitions. As business and industry moves rapidly toward knowledge-based production and service systems, professionals must be able to integrate academic and technical knowledge. The MS in Career and Technical Education degree is designed for teachers, administrators and coordinators in programs focused on preparing people for successful careers in secondary, post-secondary community or technical colleges, higher education and business and industry. The program is designed for working adults, and many graduates complete the program in two years. With more than 800 degrees awarded since 1973, graduates of UW-Stout's MS in Career and Technical Education program follow successful careers with new leadership skills in areas of education, business and industry.

    School Overview

    The University of Wisconsin-Stout was founded by Mr. James Huff Stout as a set of vocational training schools in Menomonie, beginning in 1891. The schools formed an independent institute in 1908 and then came under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents of State Colleges in 1955. In 1971, Stout was designated by the Board of Regents as one of only two special mission universities in the UW System. Stout was to offer focused programs "related to professional careers in industry, technology, home economics, applied art and the helping professions." In March 2007, UW-Stout was designated "Wisconsin's Polytechnic University" by the UW System Board of Regents.

    UW-Stout offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and certificates from the following schools and colleges:
