Program Overview

At University of Wisconsin-Stout, we recognize the need for energy independence and an educated workforce in the growing green economy. Drawing on the strengths of four different University of Wisconsin campuses — UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Superior and UW-Parkside — this online degree-completion program equips students with the management skills and knowledge needed to lead sustainable business initiatives in corporate business operations. The program enables sustainable practices to be implemented by many positions in the company including Facilities Manager, Plant Manager, Human Resources Director and Product Manager. The BS in Sustainable Management is an interdisciplinary program that helps students gain a broad understanding of the ways in which business systems, natural systems, and social systems intersect. With this degree you will be qualified to help businesses develop sustainable practices for a global marketplace, while still helping to preserve natural resources and strengthen community. Corporations from around the country driving leadership in sustainability practices helped develop the curriculum for the BS in Sustainable Management. For those professionals not seeking a degree but wanting increase their career potential, UW-Stout also offers two new certificate programs.

    School Overview

    The University of Wisconsin-Stout was founded by Mr. James Huff Stout as a set of vocational training schools in Menomonie, beginning in 1891. The schools formed an independent institute in 1908 and then came under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents of State Colleges in 1955. In 1971, Stout was designated by the Board of Regents as one of only two special mission universities in the UW System. Stout was to offer focused programs "related to professional careers in industry, technology, home economics, applied art and the helping professions." In March 2007, UW-Stout was designated "Wisconsin's Polytechnic University" by the UW System Board of Regents.

    UW-Stout offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and certificates from the following schools and colleges:
