Program Overview

The University of the Southwest offers a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Marketing that is well suited for students who wish to enhance their knowledge in marketing development and strategies that are used in today’s business world. Graduates may find employment in various different corporations and organizations. This program provides individuals with the opportunity to increase their salary, have opportunities for promotion, and gain job security. Enrolled students will have the ability to develop and implement an effective marketing strategy that can be used in the today’s economy. Students will be able to build brand awareness, create pricing strategies, utilize marketing technology, and much more with this degree. The Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Marketing Program consists of 120 total credit hours that may be completed in four years. Students are required to complete general education courses, institutional coursework, major coursework, and marketing emphasis coursework. General education topics that students will cover include fine arts, humanities, social science, science labs, mathematics, computer applications, economics, composition, literature, and speech. Major level coursework  that students are required to complete include principles of accounting I & II, business law, principles of finance, principles of management, ethics, organizational behavior, creating a business plan, and principles of marketing. Last, students will complete marketing emphasis courses. These courses include advertising and promotion, global marketing, service marketing, marketing management, topics in marketing, managing diversity, strategic planning, leadership, effective organizational teams, and marketing research. These courses are designed to ensure that students are well prepared to further their education and obtain specialized employment in positions within the marketing career field.

All courses for this program are available online. The online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program. In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale) in the marketing emphasis area and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.

    The University of the Southwest, private, non-denominational liberal arts university, is located in Hobbs, New Mexico. Originally founded in 1956 as Hobbs Baptist College, a 2-year junior college, the name of the institution changed to New Mexico Baptist College in 1958, when it became a four-year college. The institution became known as the College of the Southwest in 1962, and in 2008 became the University of the Southwest. The University of the Southwest is a Christ-centered institution that teaches the belief of God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible, and faculty and staff with Christ centered values instruct students to live, work and learn together while valuing each others cultures and beliefs.
