Bachelor of Business Administration in Energy Management
The University of the Southwest offers a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Energy Management that is well suited for students who wish to enhance their knowledge in energy management and pursue employment within the energy sector. Graduates will gain knowledge in contacts, tax, leasing and law, renewable energy, sustainability, and corporate responsibility. Graduates may find work in a variety of different agencies as an energy professional or a consultant. Energy management is becoming a demanding field with many positions available in the workforce for graduating students due to the increased awareness of poor energy use within business.
The Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Energy Management Program consists of 120 total credit hours can potentially be completed in four years. Students are required to complete general education courses, institutional coursework, major coursework, and energy management emphasis coursework. General education topics that students will cover include fine arts, humanities, social science, science labs, mathematics, computer applications, economics, composition, literature, and speech. Major level coursework students are required to complete include principles of accounting I & II, business law, principles of finance, principles of management, ethics, organizational behavior, creating a business plan, and principles of marketing. Lastly, students will complete energy management emphasis courses. These courses include oil and gas law, oil and gas contracts and tax, management information systems, project management, managing diversity, strategic planning, leadership, and more. These courses are designed to ensure that students are well prepared to further their education and obtain employment within the energy sector career field.
Students may take courses online and attend courses that are offered on weekends. This online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program. In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale) in the energy management emphasis area and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
