Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance
The University of the Southwest offers a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Finance that is well suited for students who wish to enhance their knowledge in finance in the business administration field. Graduates will gain skills in problem solving, critical thinking, communication, and decision making. This program provides individuals with the opportunity to increase their salary, become eligible for promotions, and gain job security. Enrolled students will have the ability to understand financial markets, financial institutions, general investment criteria, and how to make sound business decisions.
The Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Finance Program consists of 120 total credit hours that can potentially be completed in four years. Students are required to complete general education courses, institutional coursework, major coursework, and finance emphasis coursework. General education topics students will cover include fine arts, humanities, social science, science labs, mathematics, computer applications, economics, composition, literature, and speech. Major level coursework students are required to complete include principles of accounting I & II, business law, principles of finance, principles of management, ethics, organizational behavior, creating a business plan, and principles of marketing. Lastly, students will complete finance emphasis courses. These courses include financial analysis, global finance, insurance and risk, financial management, and others. These courses are designed to ensure that students are well prepared to further their education and obtain employment within the financial business career field.
All courses for this program are available online. The online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program. In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.50 (on a 4.0 scale) in the financial emphasis area and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
