    School Overview

The Morrill Act of 1862 called for the federal government to provide each state with a grant of land that could be sold "for the endowment, support, and maintenance of at least one college" to teach agriculture and the mechanic arts. In 1866 Gov. Frederick Smyth signed an Act establishing the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts to be located in Hanover in connection with Dartmouth College. Its stated mission is to "provide comprehensive, high-quality undergraduate programs and graduate programs of distinction. Our primary purpose is learning—students collaborating with faculty in teaching, research, creative expression and service."
