    School Overview

In 1895, the Minnesota Legislature created the Normal School at Duluth. In 1921, the institution became the Duluth State Teachers College, and in 1947 it became a coordinate campus of the University of Minnesota. In 1948, ground was broken for the first building of the new campus and a building boom ensued to accommodate GIs returning from World War II. Today, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a comprehensive regional university that consistently ranks among the top Midwestern, regional universities. Providing an alternative to both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges, UMD attracts students looking for a personalized learning experience on a medium-sized campus of a major university.

UMD offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates from the following schools and colleges:

    • College of Education and Human Service Professions
    • College of Liberal Arts
    • College of Pharmacy, Duluth
