As a leader in nursing education for over 60 years, the College of Nursing at UMass Amherst prepares candidates to enter the nursing profession at the baccalaureate level, master’s, and doctoral levels while also developing vital nurse educators and researchers to inform and educate future generations of nursing students. An extensive faculty with published nursing research, advanced clinical skills, and innovative approaches to teach, engage and challenge students through various modes of learning including state-of-the-art technology.

At the College of Nursing at UMass Amherst:

  • Foundation courses in the sciences and humanities form the basis of the nursing major, 
  • The baccalaureate program integrates core knowledge, core competencies, and role development appropriate for the undergraduate level of nursing education.
  • The master’s programs build on baccalaureate competencies to develop clinical specialty roles and
  • The doctoral programs prepare candidates to teach and conduct research in a university setting (PhD) or enter advanced clinical practice (DNP).

The College of Nursing prepares students to assess and meet the ever-changing needs of individuals, families, and communities through clinical placements in such settings as hospitals, extended care facilities, ambulatory care clinics, schools, senior centers, day programs, and correctional facilities across Massachusetts and throughout New England.
