One-Year Master of Business Administration

Program Details

University of Maryland at University College offers a One-Year option for the Master of Business Administration degree for students and professionals in businesses who want to develop fundamental and advanced management skills necessary for managers in the organizational and corporate structure, with roles in middle and high level management. The program is a compressed and concentrated opportunity for students to develop the professional expertise of a manager in about half of the time typically required. The program will get students acquainted with the theories, principles and strategies involved in the operation of a business. In addition, individuals will develop their creative and critical thinking capabilities to develop strategies and learn to innovate in order to solve problems and make strategic decisions from the managerial perspective.

Students will develop their skills through a highly compressed and concentrated curriculum which is intended to develop specialized management skills. Those classes include the role of managers in organizations, legal and ethical issues in business, leading people and groups in the workplace, measuring financial performance, financial decision making, marketing management, marketing projects and operations, and business strategy in the global marketplace.

By completing the program, students will have earned an MBA and demonstrated the professional qualifications of management in a fraction of the time typically necessary for the degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as a functional effective professional in their field.  These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to demonstrate an extensive and practical knowledge-base of theory, tools, skills, practices, and research related to business and be able to apply these to the problems and opportunities that are encountered in environments encountered in management, to demonstrate effective professional and interpersonal practices essential in business, and to develop a range of professional strategies that promote effectiveness in a business environment.
