University of Maryland at University College offers a Master of Science degree in Management with a specialization in Information Systems and Services for students and professionals in business that are interested in the responsibilities involved in creating, managing, and servicing information systems for the purpose of providing services necessary for communications and data management for organizations and business operations. The specialization is intended for students who have little to no experience with computers as well as advanced computer skills training opportunities to develop career options with information systems.
Students will study topics relating to management of information systems and development of information systems in business settings. Those classes include organizational theory, intercultural communications and leadership, financial decision making for managers, statistics for managerial decision making, information systems for managers, information systems management and integration, information systems sourcing management, systems analysis and design, decision and support systems and expert systems, information technology, the chief information officer, and organizational transformation, and internet multimedia applications.
Students graduating the program will have demonstrated the prerequisite knowledge and qualifications necessary for roles in management of information systems. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to design appropriate software system structures in response to application needs, organizational environment, and technical ecology, to make appropriate design choices based on system, service, and business process needs, to analyze social, legal, ethical, and professional issues in business and technical decision making, to employ best communication practices with business partners, users, customers, and third-party providers, to use sound evaluation practices to select appropriately among competing technologies and technical approaches, and to manage business processes through analysis, design, and optimization in response to organizational needs.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
