University of Maryland at University College offers the Master of Science in Management with a specialization in Acquisition and Supply Chain Management for students and professionals in management and production whose career interests involve globalized activities such as production and international management. Students will learn about the production process or goods or services and how organizations work to minimize costs and increase quality and efficiency through supply chain management. Supply chain management utilizes multiple organizations and levels of production in combination with information systems and management to produce on a timely and cost-effective schedule. As such, managers trained in supply chain management and materials acquisition are in a unique position to manage one of the most important aspects of business production.
Students will study the different types of supply chain systems as well as management roles in administrating those systems. Those classes include strategic management in a global environment, intercultural communication and leadership, purchasing and materials management, legal aspects of contracting, contract pricing and negotiations, strategic purchasing and logistics, law, management, and technology in commercial transactions in a technical environment, integrative supply chain management, and contemporary logistics.
Through the program, students will develop the professional qualities and knowledge necessary for practice in international and supply chain management. Those qualifications include the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the process of global procurement and sourcing involving complex relationships within the context of contracts, including macroeconomic factors such as trade agreements, regional trade consortia, taxation, and duties, to demonstrate an understanding of contemporary and critical issues relating to international legal institutions, cultural differences, and cultural fluctuations, to demonstrate an understanding of operations and supply chain activities, as well as the influence of global, gas, and energy industries and their effect on supply.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
