University of Maryland at University College offers a Certificate in Intellectual Property, Digitization, and Digital Media for professionals whose career credentials can improved through the study of the legal, technical, and business fundamentals in the utilization of intellectual property, and intellectual property management related to digitalization and digital media. Students will study the consequences and opportunities that are emerging in this field in the providing of digital services. Students will learn about the threats to digital media including lawsuits and copyright trolls as well as opportunities inherent in licensing of digital media and intellectual properties.
Students will study topics involving telecommunication systems and the utilization of technology to manage communications. Those classes include orientation to graduate studies at UMUC, understanding intellectual property management, and digitization, digital media, and licensing.
Students graduating the program will have demonstrated the prerequisite knowledge and qualifications necessary for certification in the management of telecommunications systems. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to utilize intellectual property management in order to plan, prepare, and operate management of digital services, to work in order to provide information and media necessary for operations, to recommend appropriate media solutions based on organizational needs and an evaluation of alternatives, to evaluate legal, technical, and business utilization of intellectual property and digital media, to apply intellectual property and digital media knowledge in the digitization of information, and to understand the roles and responsibilities of management of digital media and intellectual property in order to understand emerging consequences and opportunities of using digital media.

The University of Maryland, University College is a public university that was founded in 1947. The main headquarters of UMUC is in Adelphi, Maryland, a town that borders College Park. UMUC is one of eleven divisions of the University of Maryland and provides quality educational opportunities for primarily non-traditional adult students. UMUC developed as a result of the popularity of evening programs for adults that were offered by the University of Maryland in the 1920’s. The University of Maryland established the College of Special and Continuation Studies (CSCS) in 1947, and in 1959 it became the University of Maryland College. The UMUC became an independent university in 1970, and in 1988 it became part of the University System of Maryland.
